This digital illustration was made for a client, SURFARI, a high quality wood long board maker from the US. He wanted a drawing of a very classic looking mermaid in the final illustration. Later I included de drawing of the boards and leafs. And YES, the face is based on Adriana Lima :) (per-request). See the close-up detail of the digital illustration in this same gallery. The original drawing is made with lead mechanical pencil (0.7 HB) on hot press paper (opalina), the size of the drawing is 17x22". Later scanned and colored in Photoshop with my Wacom Bamboo original tablet.

Another digital illustration made for SURFARI, on this case he wanted a black panther or black jaguar. It was REALLY hard to find good reference material, for this specific pose where he's coming out from in between the boards. The drawing wasn't made as big as the mermaid, but it sure had a LOT of detail. Drawing each hair was a ZEN experience (chuckle). I've always liked the real life versions of cartoons that the great "Pixeloo" makes in his digital illustrations or photo manipulations. So I decided on Fred Flintstone, a cartoon character that already offers a dificulty in bringing him into 3d by having that mouth in a style tha reminds me of Cubism perspective. The hardest part of creating these illustrations is finding all the face features, textures and details necesary to work a realistic looking render of the 2d cartoons. The original digital illustration is big enough to print as a magazine cover (who knows, maybe some gaming or cartoon magazine might want this illustration for their cover, one can only wish hehe).

A close-up his mouth, I wanted to make sure he had a very clean shaven but rough skin around his mouth. The mouth.. it was the hardest part to get right int he illustration because of it's awkward position!
